Ottawa, July 18, 2019 - The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, today announced a $150,000 investment in BOSK Bioproducts in the first phase of a Bioplastics Challenge aimed at helping small businesses reduce pollution by turning forest-based residue into sustainable domestic plastic material.
Unfortunately, today's biodegradable plastics often have prerequisites for degradability that make them truly compostable in a limited range of conditions," said Laurence Boudreault, General Manager of BOSK BIOPRODUITS. "This investment will enable us to finalize the proof-of-concept of our project to develop a formulation, based on polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) and wood by-products, in order to develop bioplastics that can be used in the production of various plastic objects, in accordance with recognized standards of compostability ". About Innovative Solutions Canada (ISC): ISC is a $100-million program dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to complex environmental challenges. The Government of Canada may then act as a first customer, helping these small businesses commercialize their innovations, scale up their business and create good jobs for Canadians. About Bosk Bioproducts: Bosk Bioproducts is a Canadian company that develops, manufactures and markets eco-friendly bioplastics products that are completely compostable, GMO-free, non-toxic, made from renewable materials from the pulp & paper industry's operations.
